Woman '˜kicked out of speeding car'

She claims to have been dragged into the vehicle after her friend’s ex-partner arrived at a house and launched an assault, a judge was told.

Details emerged as 35-year-old Terence Young was refused bail on a charge of witness intimidation.

Young, of Caffrey Park in the city’s Andersonstown district, is being investigated over alleged incidents between July 15-17.

He is alleged to have turned up at the house where the two women were sharing a bottle of wine.

Prosecution counsel Michael Chambers detailed claims of violence inside the property that escalated outside on the street.

Young allegedly pulled one of the women into the car before driving off at speeds of up to 70mph, the court heard.

According to her account he then spun the vehicle round and used his foot to kick her out.

She sustained cuts and grazes to her head, Mr Chambers said.

In a conflicting version of events, Young claimed he tried to drive away after the women attacked him with bottles and brush shafts.

He was released on police bail without being charged with any offences over that incident.

But two days later he allegedly went to the home of one of the women’s father in the Twinbrook area and tapped on the window.

Police at the property arrested him on suspicion of witness intimidation.

Defence barrister Barry Gibson stressed Young is currently not charged in connection with the alleged ejection from the car.

He also argued that his client and the woman’s father were long-standing friends.

Mr Gibson added that a day earlier the two men had met by chance and exchanged blows during a fight.

“They then shook hands, parted and said that was the end of the matter,” he explained.

Denying bail, however, Mr Justice Horner cited the risks of reoffending and interference with witnesses.
