Councillor who defected to DUP should resign

I was shocked to learn that Daniel Allen defected to the DUP considering he was rather liberal on a range of social issues.

I found it rather hilarious to read his statement, as it read eerily similar to that of Alastair Patterson, in Fermanagh and South Tyrone. His statement, like Alastair Patterson’s, was centred around the leadership of Mrs Arlene Foster.

I, as a voter do not care about the leadership of a party, I care about the issues on the ground which the DUP aren’t delivering on by-and-large for the people of Northern Ireland.

The defections are used as an ego boost for Mrs Foster and a smoke screen of failures within the DUP/SF administration.

The DUP need to take the focus away from these defections and put their time and effort into the things that they can do for people in Northern Ireland, especially post-Brexit.

The sheer lack of planning shows a total lack of leadership by DUP/SF - we always knew Brexit was possible so why do we lack a clear plan to help Northern Ireland take advantage of Brexit?

The DUP press office are trying to spin these defections as “leadership” - the defections are nothing more than disgruntled people losing touch with the people who voted for them in 2014 and 2016.

Councillor Daniel Allen should resign for the matter of respect to the people who voted for him in 2014.
