BOWLS: New summer rinks tournament planned at Bannview Bowls Centre

Gerald Black is throwing open the doors at the Bannview Bowls Centre by hosting a new Summer Rinks League.

It will run for seven weeks at the club’s base, 60 Portmore Street, Portadown, with games taking place from Monday to Friday, starting on April 4.

“We want to give everyone an opportunity to play, so people can bowls on the night of their choice,” said Gerald.

“Games will be played on a nightly basis. It is planned for seven weeks – the doors will be open form 7pm each night. Hopefully, it will catch the imagination of the short mat bowlers.”

Entry fee is £20 per person, payable one week in advance

The winning rink will pick up £80 with £60 going to the runners-up.

* Robert Hunter and William Martin will go head to head in the final of the Jethro Rinks League on Thursday, March 24 (10.30am).

It’s a repeat of last year’s final, which was won by Martin on a tie-end.

Hunter, with 58 points won the Morning Section, five clear of Aidan Magee.

Martin again topped the Afternoon Section, pipping Liam Magenis on shot advantage as both rinks finished on 55 points.

Magee and Magennis wil battle it out for third/fourth place -- the first time both rinks have finished in the play-off.

The event will be staged in the in Killeeshil Community Centre and played from Tuesday-Friday, April 5-8. Finals will be held on Saturday April 9. Entry fee £7 per pair, tea included.
