Scott Quigg backing Leo Santa Cruz to beat Carl Frampton

Scott Quigg still seems to be a little bit sore after losing to Carl Frampton in their massive IBF and WBA Super-bantamweight in Manchester at the end of February.

That night Frampton saw off Quigg on points to claim the two belts and now the Bury fighter is backing Leo Santa Cruz to beat Frampton in their WBA Featherweight title clash in New York on July 30.

“I think Frampton gets beat,” Quigg told Sky Sports.

“It’s not me being bitter because he got the win over me, I just think, having been in there with him, if I’d have started faster everyone said I’d have won the fight.

“I think Santa Cruz is a bit bigger than me and he’ll start off like a train and it’s whether or not Frampton can out-box him for 12 rounds.

“What surprised me when I was in with him was his power. He wasn’t the thunderous puncher he’s got a bit of a reputation for being.

“If he can’t put a dent in Santa Cruz he is going to be in for a very tough night.”

And Quigg says he would love a rematch with Frampton.

“I knew he was going to be sharp early on so if I’d have bulldozed in I’d have probably been caught with a shot. The idea was to go from the fourth round and that’s when I started having a good round, but that’s when the jaw went.

“There are no excuses though. But I will be a world champion this year.”
