Mullen side-footed a 31st-minute opener after the PSNI defence failed to clear and added a penalty on 58 minutes after visiting keeper Jordan Williamson upended Daniel Ryan.

Meanwhile, a late Aaron Haire goal was enough to put Lurgan Celtic through in their home tie against Knockbreda.

Former Portadown player Haire fired past ‘Breda goalkeeper Ryan McBride from six yards in the 79th minute.

McBride had saved a penalty taken by Celtic’s Dale Malone before the eventual winner.

* Carrick Rangers’ sixth round tie with Crumlin Star was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Belfast Loughshore Hotel Arena.

It is the ninth postponement at Carrick’s home ground this season and a the cup fixture has been rearranged for Monday, February 15.
