Warrenpoint began the brighter of the two sides and created a number of early chances but failed to capitalise on their dominance in the opening exchanges.

The Mallards were undone just before the break as Barry Gray’s side went in front. A volley from just outside the area from Warrenpoint captain John Boyle beat the fully stretched Rouse only to cannon off the base of the right hand post. However, Tiernan Mulvenna was on hand to sidefoot home the rebound from six yards .

It took just 60 seconds of the second half for the ‘Point to double their lead. Liam McMenamin missed a clearance midway inside his own half and Stephen Murray raced clear and to curl the ball past Rouse.

It was three before the hour mark with the best goal of the lot that was finished off by sub Johnny McMurray.

Then Stephen Murray sprayed the ball out to the left to Donnelly and he played in the big striker who made no mistake.
