Ireland’s Gary Hurley made the last two days as a 65 left him also on par.

England’s Nathan Kimsey leads the final qualifying stage on 12 under with the help of a 61 on Tuesday, with Richard McEvoy, Jeff Winther and Robert Coles three shots behind.

Hoey carded opening rounds of 70, 67 and 76, before his fourth-round 71 saw him move up the leaderboard of 156 competitiors in Spain.

The Belfast player has won five European Tour titles during his career but failed to make the top 110 in the Race to Dubai standings, which would have earned him a card for next season.

Hoey missed the cut in 21 of his 28 European Tour tournaments this season.
