ICE HOCKEY: Nickerson preparing for make-or-break weekend

The Welsh side have sat in first place for the majority of the 2016/17 season and the Giants have an opportunity to move above the Devils with games this Friday and Saturday at The SSE Arena, Belfast.

With the Elite League beginning to reach the business end of the season, the Giants have 11 games remaining and Cardiff have 12 to go.

“There are not that many games left,” said Nickerson, “and in order to get to first place, we need to go through Cardiff.”

Out of those 11 games the Giants have still to play, four are against the Cardiff Devils - starting with this Friday and Saturday in Belfast. With multiple games against the league leaders, it offers a mouth watering prospect of the league’s top two teams battling it out for the Monteith Bowl.

“Those four games against Cardiff are going to make or break our season,” claimed Nickerson.

Despite a loss in Fife last Sunday, the Giants have been in fine form recently - winning seven league games in-a-row up until that game. Nickerson and his teammates have been focusing this week in practice on getting back to winning ways against Cardiff this weekend,

“This week we have been talking about getting back to ‘Giants hockey’ - simply hockey, chipping pucks and outworking teams. We are going to need that this weekend going against Cardiff who work hard and are super skilled.”
