The 20-year-old form Chorley in Lancashire was killed in a crash in the Supertwins race at the event on May 14.

Set to take place on Sunday, June 26, the tribute lap has been organised by a group of road racing enthusiasts who had been impressed by the young English rider’s performances prior to his untimely death.

Anyone wishing to take part is asked to assemble at the start and finish area on the North West 200 course in Portrush from 12 noon, with a controlled lap of the 8.9-mile ‘Triangle’ scheduled to commence at 1pm.

The organisers hope that members of the Air Ambulance Northern Ireland charity will be in attendance, giving participants the opportunity to make a donation.

The tribute is also aimed at ‘paying homage to all road racers who have tragically lost their lives over the years at the North West 200’.

The organisers have requested that everyone taking part in the controlled lap ‘comply with all current laws under the Road Traffic ( NI) Order 2007’.

A funeral service for Mitchell-Thomas was held on Tuesday and his father, Kevin, plans to scatter his ashes at the Isle of Man TT, where he was due to make his full Isle of Man TT debut this year.

Following his death and with the full backing of Malachi’s father, the Dungannon-based Burrows Engineering Racing team made the decision to fulfil its commitments at the TT with Peter Hickman and Derek Sheils.
