The organisers have received an entry of more than 100 and Jennings will face stiff competition from the likes of Declan Boyle in his Ford Fiesta WRC and Derek McGarrity, winner of the recent New Year Stages at Kirkistown, who will drive a similar car.

The top six is completed by Roy White (Ford Fiesta WRC), Tim McNulty (MINI WRC) and Dean Rafferty (Subaru WRC).

The entry also includes no less than 14 of the new generation R5 rally cars and 2016 is the first year for these cars to feature as the lead class in the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship.

The talented young drivers who drive these cars are very likely to spring a surprise result at the end of the event; such names as Keith Cronin (Citroen DS3), Josh Moffett and Alastair Fisher both in Ford Fiestas.

Among the overseas entries are Kai Dieter Kolle from Germany in a Porsche Carrera, while John Coyne makes the trip from Canada to take part in the Historic event in a Talbot Sunbeam and Tomas Davies travels from the Wales in his new Fiesta R5.

The rally will get under way with a Ceremonial Start in Eyre Square on Friday night at 8pm, following afternoon scrutineering of cars at the Galway Race Course from 2pm.
