OPEN GOLF: Graeme McDowell forced to miss night on the town after making cut
The 36-year-old was four-over for his 36 holes and admitted after his round “if three-over makes it I’ll probably have to shoot myself” after a bogey on the par-three 17th.
So with an early Saturday flight booked for a return to his Florida home McDowell planned his night out and then went for a post-round nap, which was interrupted by his bagman Ken Comboy.

“I woke up to my phone ringing. It was my caddie on the phone. He said ‘Wake up, we’re T-69.’ I said ‘Wise up. There’s no shot’.
“I was taking a nap to go out for a bit of dinner and a few pints with the boys to get on a flight to Orlando this morning at half-nine.
It’s probably the most unexpected cut I’ve ever made for sure. I didn’t think three-over had a chance never mind four but obviously this weather had the last word yesterday.”
McDowell went out at 9.35am and shot 72 to be five-over for the tournament.
