Supercars ready for Kirkistown clash

The Supercars are former RT2000/Supercar space frame machines powered by 2000cc Zetec engines, which arguably produced some of the best racing ever seen in Ireland.

The exciting Supercars have already raced at Mondello Park and Bishopscourt and are a very welcome addition to the Kirkistown programme.

Aiming to repeat their Bishopscourt wins, Andy O’Brien and Peter Barrable and high speed, close racing is on the cards as the battle continues in rounds five and six at the County Down venue.

Driving the Keogh’s Farm Celebrity Car will be double British Touring Car Champion Colin Turkington who last raced at Kirkistown on Boxing Day 2004 when he drove a Ford Fiesta.

“I am really looking forward to be back racing at Kirkistown.

“I doubt if I will manage any pre event testing, so I am simply going to enjoy it,” added Turkington.

The other visiting championship is the BOSS series (Big Open Single Seaters), which will see some of the fastest cars in Irish racing take to the Kirkistoan tarmac and local interest will be on drivers like Noel Robinson while Cian Carey a regular at Kirkistown will be out to prevent Robinson winning at his home track. Robinson currently heads the points table.

Robinson will have yet another busy day as apart from competing in the BOSS series with a Formula Renault he will defend his lead in the Northern Ireland Formula Ford 1600 Championship in a Van Diemen.

Having built up a considerable lead after the last two rounds at Bishopscourt he can not relax with the like of Alan Davidson who is the major threat in a locally built Mondiale. Further tin top action will be provided by the Kirkistown Saloons and GTs and the one make Ford Fiesta series makes second appearance of the season at the home track.

This may be the class of budget saloon racing, but close racing is assured.
