“Everything’s been cancelled – Wimbledon; Euros; music festivals, Olympics etc.

We are attempting to bring a little bit of all of them in a show on a Saturday night,” explains Peter Crouch, the man who continues in his bold attempt to inject a little fun into the global disaster movie that is 2020.

The former striker adds: “We have an amazing studio guest each night, sportsmen competing against each other and a music gig from some top bands and artists from their garden.”

This week viewers can enjoy episode four, but in case you’re new to the show and are wondering what to expect, the ex-footballer fills in a few blanks.

“I’ve signed up ’cause I know it will be fun,” he enthuses. “Hopefully everyone gets on board and has a great time with us. We have Olympians competing against each other; we have great music, acts surprising fans and me trying not to kill myself with a load of my football mates in extreme retirement videos.”

Radio One DJ Maya Jama is also rather thrilled to be on board.

“It’s giving you everything you missed out on this summer,” she explains. “All the sport, entertainment, comedy, music performances from artists whose tours have been cancelled and there’s sports items from your favourite sports personalities. It’s a bag of fun on a Saturday night, a light-hearted entertainment show. None of us are that serious so viewers can expect a laugh. There’s something for everyone.”

Maya admits that when it comes to perfect guests, she has her eye on a couple of knockout stars.

“My dream guest for the show would be Tyson Fury or John Fury because I’m in love with the whole family after watching their documentary,” she explains. “I think they’re all hilarious, super-talented and fascinating at the same time so yeah, would love to have them both on.”

Save Our Summer is music to the ears of another familiar face: Taskmaster and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown veteran Alex Horne.

“The guests that are coming on the show are also remarkably good,” he explains. “There’ll be a proper mix of famous names from sport and massive talent from elsewhere, and they’ll all be mucking in with whatever nonsense we’ve got up our sleeve that week. It’ll be like those lime shower gels you get nowadays – fresh and invigorating.”

Alex admits that the sporting moments are the highlights for him.

“I’ve missed watching football; I’m gutted the Olympics isn’t happening this year, but this show will provide the antidote to those feelings. There’ll be highs, lows, skills, determination and slip-ups. We’ll get to see people showing off and letting themselves down. It’ll be fun.”

Alex’s band have the ability to brighten up any show. So if you are tuning in late, and wondering how the Horne Section will be involved, the answer is simple.

“We shall be playing the theme tune; walk-on music; songs, sketches and, occasionally, jokes,” he explains. “Mostly though, we’ll be the much-needed eye-candy for the viewers.”
