It might not seem that long since the last series of The Voice UK finished, but that’s because the live shows had to be delayed due to the pandemic – it began airing in January 2020, but the final didn’t take place until November.

So, it really is time for a new series to begin, and there’s even a new coach joining the line-up. Award-winning star Anne-Marie is taking the spinning chair vacated by Meghan Trainor.

She’s an award-winning star who has enjoyed global success, but just in case Anne-Marie’s name isn’t familiar, her 2018 debut album, Speak Your Mind, saw her become the biggest-selling debut artist of that year. Since then, she’s gone on to work with Rudimental and Tion Wayne and has picked up an impressive nine Brit Award nominations. So, she’s definitely qualified to join veterans Tom Jones, will.i.am and Olly Murs – and they are glad to have her on board.

Tom said: “I am really looking forward to working with Anne-Marie for the upcoming series of The Voice UK. Anne-Marie will bring an injection of fresh energy and ideas which is fantastic. I’m excited and anticipating a fun and challenging new Series 10!”

Olly was even more enthusiastic, adding: “I’m so happy that Anne-Marie is joining us on the new season of The Voice UK. She was my guest mentor in 2019 and the advice and help she gave to my contestants that day was invaluable. I’m a huge champion of her. I can’t wait to hear about her own journey and I’m sure she will be a fantastic Coach. She is one of the biggest female artists in the industry right now, so it’s great to have her join the team and also help bring the Essex ratio up! We are taking over!”

But is there a chance the coaches could regret having to go head to head with Anne-Marie when it comes to convincing the singers to join their teams?

That’s because this year’s series is introducing a new tweak to the format called The Block. It means that during the Blind auditions, the four coaches will each have the opportunity to stop a fellow coach from adding a singer to his or her team. They can either use it to secure the best team possible for themselves or, if they’re really tactical, to weaken the chances of another coach bagging all the best vocalists.

However, they can only use it once, so will anyone deploy it in this opening episode? Or will they just rely on their powers of persuasion if it turns out they’ve turned their chair for a vocalist who also caught the ear of one of their rivals?
