Let’s make Christmas 2025 one to really remember in terms of it being accident free, Mr Robert Carmichael, the Chairman of the East Londonderry Ulster Unionist Association has urged.

Mr Carmichael issued his appeal as part of the UUP association’s Christmas message to constituents.

Speaking on behalf of the UUP association, Mr Carmichael added: “Christmas is always seen as a family time when many of us get together, but for some it can be a time of tremendous sorrow because of the death of loved ones.

“Sadly vitally every month, we learn of some tragedy on the roads. That’s why our association is making a heartfelt appeal to every constituent in East Londonderry - let’s make this Christmas one to remember by taking as much care as we can on the roads.

“Let’s make Christmas 2025 one to remember because it was accident free on our roads and in our homes.

“With some of the horrendous weather we have been enduring lately, and with our constituency largely comprised of many rural roads, let’s all play our parts - drivers and pedestrians alike - in making sure we all have a safe Christmas when we are travelling.

“And let’s all, too, remember the vulnerable in our community at this time of year. We should become the eyes and ears, especially of the elderly, during these cold snaps.

“Christmas time is traditionally seen as a time of good will to others. So let’s put words into action by keeping in touch with vulnerable neighbours and sections of our community.

“And we also remember the security and emergency services who will have to be on duty over the Christmas period. Many of us will be attending carol services and Christmas morning services.

“During these occasions, let’s pledge to remember our security and emergency services personnel in our thoughts and prayers. We particularly remember our doctors and nurses working in the hospitals and nursing homes at this difficult time, especially with the flu season hitting the Province this year.

“We in the East Londonderry UUP association, therefore, want to wish everyone in the constituency a very safe and merry Christmas,” said Mr Carmichael.
