The lights are out and curtain is down, but the show must go on

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to sweep the country, and the prospect of a second lockdown looms large on the horizon, many people have come to realise the importance of the arts in helping get through these difficult times.

Whether you were a regular theatre goer before the pandemic struck, or rarely stepped foot inside an auditorium, there is no doubt that music, art, comedy, and performance has helped many people stay sane throughout lockdown.

And whilst appreciation of the arts sector has risen over recent months, these have been very challenging times for theatres, arts groups, and theatre companies across Northern Ireland.

That is why, as venues hope to reopen their doors in the near future, and with many groups showing off their talents online, the News Letter and JPI Media are saying ‘The Show Must Go On’.

While the curtains are still down in local theatres, we are shining a spotlight on some of the very best professional and amateur talent Northern Ireland has to offer and we are calling on our readers to ‘Support Our Arts’ both now, and when the curtains are finally raised once again.

We will also be asking our readers to let us know which shows you missed out on seeing when the lockdown happened, and which shows you are most looking forward to seeing when our performers can once again tread the boards.
