December may be the season of sparkle, but new research from Sudocrem® has revealed that all the glitz and glamour can take a toll on our skin.

According to the research, two thirds (65%) of people in Belfast admit to choosing style over comfort during the festive season, wearing outfits they know will be uncomfortable in the name of fashion.

And their love of sequins is leaving its mark, as more than half (55%) of partygoers have experienced skin irritation, redness or discomfort from sequins, glitter or sparkly fabrics rubbing against their skin – a phenomenon My Little Sudocrem® has dubbed ‘sparkle chafe’.

For many, the irritation can distract from the festive fun. More than a quarter (28%) have gone as far as to leave a party or event early due to outfit discomfort, proving that looking good doesn’t always feel good.

The skin toll of party season doesn’t stop there, as Brits are struggling with a host of skin complaints including dryness caused by cold weather and central heating (58%), redness and irritation (42%) and fabric discomfort (33%), highlighting just how much our skin endures while we’re busy celebrating the festive period.

And while many spend hours getting ready for the big night out and perfecting their seasonal glam, few people show their skin the same care afterwards, with 60% admitting they spend longer getting ready than caring for their skin post-party.

When it comes to surviving the festive calendar, Brits are taking no chances. The nation’s ultimate ‘just in case’ party bag kit has been revealed, featuring six go-to products:

  1. Lip balm (45%)
  2. Plasters (39%)
  3. Deodorant and body spray (39%)
  4. Hairbrush and bobbles (29%)
  5. Flat shoes (17%)
  6. Skincare cream (16.5%)

Bethany Innes, Sudocrem® spokesperson, said: “We all want to look and feel our best during party season, but no one should have to suffer for style. Sequins and synthetic fabrics can lead to redness, irritation or discomfort by the end of the night.

“But the good news? It can be prevented. My Little Sudocrem® is a gentle way to soothe irritation and calm redness. You can even apply a little before slipping into your sparkly outfit to help protect your skin against irritation, so you can enjoy the night without worrying about sparkle chafe.”

And for all your festive outings, My Little Sudocrem® has launched two limited edition Christmas pots with charming seasonal designs.
