101 jobs to be created in growth across the province

Up to 101 new jobs are to be created across the province with the announcement of two investment schemes totalling £6 million in Belfast and on the Causeway Coast and Glens.

In Belfast a £3m investment will bring 50 jobs at the Northern Irelad devision of US firm Cayan which provides payment processing platforms.

Further north, Enterprise Minister, Jonathan Bell announced a combined investment of another £3m by seven businesses based in Limavady, Coleraine and Kilrea set to create 51 jobs.

Cayan, is recruiting customer support staff and software engineers with staring salaries of £18,000 and £30,000 respectively.

The posts will be based at the company’s new sci-fi-themed headquarters in Belfast, which includes an Xbox room complete with gaming chairs and wi-fi stations.

Cayan launched in Northern Ireland in 2013 and currently employs 134 full-time staff.

Most of its clients are based in America and include leading brands such as Puma, Harley-Davidson and Party City.

Bronagh Major, human resources manager, said: “Cayan’s entire approach is different as we hire based on attitude and approach, and then train and support our people to help them progress and excel.

“We regard our customer support team as the voice of Cayan, providing the guidance and advice our customers need and appreciate.

“It’s less about qualifications and more about approach and engagement - so anyone who has worked in a busy retail or service-based environment, such as a coffee shop, bar or restaurant, could have the initiative and skills which would make them excel at Cayan.”

In the north west, P & L Electrics Ltd, Reinforced Concrete Detailing Services, Carnroe Supplies Ltd, Limavady Roller Doors Ltd, Seating Matters, Worldwide IPGenie and Annie’s Traditional Food have each worked with Invest Northern Ireland to grow their businesses and create new employment opportunities.

Announcing the major investment Mr Bell said: “This substantial investment of £3 million across seven local businesses is testament to the commitment and drive of these companies to prosper and grow and will enhance their overall competitiveness in an ever challenging marketplace.

“The 51 new jobs, across a range of roles and industries, will contribute over £1million annually in additional salaries to the local economy.

“One of my Department’s core priorities is to help local businesses develop and flourish and to create the conditions that will allow businesses in all sectors to achieve targeted growth.

Creating jobs and growing a prosperous, thriving economy to benefit the whole of Northern Ireland is at the heart of this work.

“With Invest NI support, these businesses will drive exports and deliver excellent benefits not only to the local area but to the wider Northern Ireland economy.”
