300 new jobs offers £10m boost to local economy

The development of a new technology centre in Belfast bringing 300 new jobs to the city is worth more than £10 million a year to the province.

The new base is to be opened by Tullet Prebon, a London based global communications provider operating in the financial servcies sector.

The firm’s arrival in Northern Ireland was welcomed by First Minister Arlene Foster, Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness and Economy Minister, Simon Hamilton each of whom hailed the project as a major fillip for the province.

The company plans to establish a major technology centre to support its international growth strategy, creating the jobs over the next three years.

“Today’s announcement of 300 new jobs will contribute over £9.9million in additional salaries into the Northern Ireland economy each year, once all the roles are in place,” said Mrs Foster.

“Tullett Prebon leads the way in the financial services sector and the company’s decision to establish its new IT development centre in Belfast is a vote of confidence in the ability and quality of the Northern Ireland workforce.

“Northern Ireland has an enviable reputation for hardworking, innovative, committed employees and I can assure you that we will prove, once again, we are good for business.”

Mr McGuinness said the project was “terrific news”.

“The new jobs will offer an average salary of £33,000, providing excellent opportunities for graduate and experienced IT professionals as well as school leavers.

“The Executive for its part will continue to make every effort to ensure our people have the right skills and qualifications which combined with our low cost base makes us a compelling location for international companies to locate.”

Invest Northern Ireland has offered Tullett Prebon more than £2 million towards the creation of the new jobs with the Department for the Economy Assured Skills programme providing £400k for associated training.
