Milking twice a day and calving all year round, Abraham achieves a herd average of 7,000 litres with a 4.45% Butterfat and 3.25% Protein.

Alongside some sucklers and pedigree Simmentals, Abraham rears his own replacements for the herd, while maintaining a real focus on his utilisation of grass. Aiming to get as much milk from forage as possible, Abraham strives to have cattle out from the end of March or early April, with silage being harvested by the end of May.

A former winner of the Fermanagh Grassland Club and UFU ‘Silage Quality Award’, Abraham is renowned for his excellent use of grass and thorough re-seeding policy, and says he has had positive results from the Thompsons’ fertiliser range.

“Cows have grazed and utilised the paddocks well and silage ground has had a great response in terms of yield, which went on to provide good quality forage throughout the winter. There has also been an improvement in the fertility profile of the herd, which I have attributed to the use of the Selenigrass fertiliser from Thompsons. Conception rates were raised significantly, cows were more fertile and their general well-being was much improved,” adds Abraham.

Overall, Abraham has been very happy with the Thompsons’ Soil Fertility Programme and plans to use it in future.
