The awards celebrate the contribution of women in the meat industry across the UK and recognise the vitally important contributions that women make to the sector. Mairead started her career at ABP Lurgan on an industrial placement in 2010 as part of her Agriculture Degree at Queen’s University. In 2012 she then joined ABP through its Graduate Recruitment Programme and has since worked across the Group’s UK’s operations including roles at the company’s sites in Langport and Sturminister and more recently she became site Technical Manager at ABP Ellesmere.

ABP Food Group has also formed a new strategic partnership with Meat Business Women which will give priority access to their programme of events, networking opportunities and mentorship schemes. This is intended to support ABP Food Group’s strategic direction, its wider mission of raising the profile of women in the meat industry and the development of female talent throughout its business.

Earlier this year, a report commissioned by Meat Business Women revealed that women make up just 36% of the meat industry’s global workforce and hold just 5% of chief executive roles. Meat Business Women is changing this by raising the profile of women in the global meat industry and connecting female talent through networking and mentoring opportunities as well as conferences and awards.
