AGM to host lecture by US beekeeping expert

Jamie is no stranger to Northern Ireland, having been the guest speaker twice before at events organised by the Institute of Northern Ireland Beekeepers. He has been described by Tom Seeley as “the leading biologist working with honeybees in the USA”.

His talks are “spellbinding and informative and extremely entertaining, and if you wish to keep your bees healthy and alive you won’t want to miss his lectures”.

The titles of his presentations are, Addressing the sustainability of beekeeping in the 21st century, and Combating Hive Pathogens.

These will be particularly relevant due to the current outbreaks of American Foul Brood, and European Foul Brood presently affecting the province, and with the looming danger of infestations of the Small Hive Beetle, which has reached Italy and is a major threat to beekeepers in the rest of Europe.

His first talk will begin at 2pm on Saturday 13th February at the Lough Neagh Discovery Centre Oxford Island. Refreshments will be available during the break and following his second talk, the Institute of Northern Ireland Beekeepers will be holding their AGM at approximately 4.15pm.
