Structural and civil engineering consultancy Taylor & Boyd announces a new partnership structure as they enter a period of growth and a new generation of leadership
Belfast structural and civil engineering consultancy Taylor & Boyd has announced a new partnership structure as it embarks on a period of growth and welcomes a new generation of leadership.

Founded in 1962 by visionary chartered engineers Brian Taylor and Douglas Boyd, the firm is one of Northern Ireland’s largest and longest-established privately-owned civil and structural engineering consultancies.
Paul Taylor, who joined the practice in 1985, will remain a partner, providing continuity in leadership and vision.
After many years of dedicated service, Glenn Kerr will step down as partner, though he will continue to contribute to the business as a consultant, offering his expertise and guidance during this transition.
Joining Paul Taylor as partners are Steven Sloan and Richard Mackey. Sloan, who joined the firm in 2004 after completing his Masters, became chartered in 2009 and progressed to senior associate in 2020. He has served on the Northern Ireland & Ireland Regional Group Committee of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) since 2021 and currently holds the role of honorary secretary.
Mackey joined the firm in 2008 following his Masters degree, achieved chartered status in 2016, and was appointed associate in 2020. He has recently contributed to the Northern Ireland region of the Concrete Society, participating in the Technical Committee Group.
A Taylor & Boyd spokesperson explained: “Their appointments reflect the Taylor & Boyd’s commitment to developing leadership from within and reinforcing its position as a trusted and forward-thinking practice.
"This evolution of the partnership marks an exciting milestone for Taylor & Boyd, strengthening the firm’s capabilities while honouring the contributions of its long-standing leaders.”
