Antrim Construction Company’s ‘Belmont Hall’ proposals plan to build 353 family homes, 47 apartments set amongst retained trees and planting, play areas, a civic hub, retail space and crèche close to the Six Mile Water River at Belmont Road, Antrim.

The £60m neighbourhood proposal will create 50 sustainable construction jobs for ten years, and meet demand for family homes in the Antrim area resulting from a growing construction deficit. According to Department for Infrastructure figures, each year the growing population in Antrim and Newtownabbey requires approximately 554 new homes. Since 2010, following the property crash, an average of just 183 houses has been completed each year in the Antrim area. With the town’s population growing, family neighbourhood homes are in particular demand.

“Housing Growth Indicators suggest Antrim and Newtownabbey will require 7,300 new homes between 2014 and 2025,” said Antrim Construction director David Magee.

“House building has simply not been keeping pace with these figures, but families and professionals are still seeking quality neighbourhood homes.”

The firm’s proposals, he added, aimed to meet a small fraction of this need and after consultation with key local groups, including the Six Mile Water River Trust, he said the plans sought to preserve the natural beauty of the riverside setting.”

“We are a company with a close connection with Antrim town,” he said.

“We also welcome the engagement from local interest groups, public representatives and residents and appreciate the time taken to meet.
