The good weather helped attract an excellent entry of dairy cattle and a large crowd of spectators to the show.

David and his brother Kenneth run the famous Glaslough Holstein Herd, which has produced many successful show-winning cows in recent years.

He was very pleased with the two qualifiers he selected at Ballymena.

First qualifier was the Holstein, Priestland 5235 PS James Rose EX91, owned by the McLean family, Bushmills. This third calver is on course for a very successful year, having already been awarded Honourable Mention at the 2016 Balmoral Show. She calved in mid-November and is currently yielding 44 kg/day at 4.30% BF and 3.30% Protein. Her 305-day yield is projected at 13,000kg.

Second Ballymena qualifier was the Ayrshire, Marleycote Sea Lily 14 EX94, owned by Joyce McLean, Bushmills. This exceptional fourth calver was also awarded the Ayrshire Championship at Balmoral Show earlier this year. Calved since December, she is currently averaging 55 kg/day at 4.20% BF and 3.40% Protein. She is projected to reach 12,600kg at 305 days.
