Beltex pair top prime lambs

Forty-two pairs of lambs were presented at the annual Christmas show and sale of prime lambs held at Ballymena Market on Tuesday, December 6.

David Millar, from Choice Cut Meats, judged the event this year and found his champions in the first place pair of Beltex lambs presented by W McAllister, Kells weighing 25kg.

David backed his judgement and purchased the champion pair of lambs through the ring at £250 each.

Reserve champion was awarded to the first place pair of Texel Lambs 24kg £150 also owned by W McAllister and also purchased by Choice Cut Meats.

Top price of the Sale went to John Harbinson, Limavady, with his second prize Beltex pair selling for 22.5kg £280 each. First prize Suffolk’s went to E Gould, Garvagh, 26.5kg £100. First Prize Charollais, W McAllister, Kells, 25.5kg £110. First place Dorset, M Moffett, Broughshane, 26kg £85. First prize Blackface went to Sam Adams, Broughshane, 77.5kg £98. First prize Mules, Sandra Hunter, Bushmills, 31kg £88.

Other leading prices: Third Place Beltex lambs 23.5kg £160 from I McCaughern, Rasharkin, Beltex 24kg £140, Texel 23kg £120, Beltex 26.5kg £130, Char 24kg £105.
