‘Big four’ accountancy firm KPMG to nearly double NI workforce with new ‘centre of excellence’

One of the so-called ‘big four’ accounting firms, KPMG, is to invest £14million in its Belfast operation and create 200 new jobs, Northern Ireland Economy Minister Diane Dodds has announced.

Alongside, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, KPMG is one of the four largest accounting firms in the world.

The firm has announced the creation of a new ‘centre of excellence’ in Northern Ireland and the extra 200 jobs means it will almost double its existing workforce here.

The Stormont economy department has said Invest NI has offered to spend £1 million in “support for the new jobs to secure the project for Northern Ireland”, while the department itself has pledged to pay for “pre-employment Assured Skills Academy training places in the amount of almost £1.3million over three years”.

Johnny Hanna, Partner in Charge of KPMG in Northern Ireland, said: “The creation of the new Centre of Excellence is the next step in the evolution of KPMG in Northern Ireland.

“The case for building the team here was made easy by the depth of talent on offer in the digital technology space and the assistance of Invest NI. This investment cements our commitment to NI and we look forward to establishing a world-class team.”

The Economy Minister, meanwhile, described the announcement as excellent news for Northern Ireland’s burgeoning professional and financial services sector.”

She added: “KPMG established its first office here in 1974 and has since demonstrated its commitment to Northern Ireland time and time again as its operation here has continued to grow.” She said the annual salaries will be worth “over £7 million”.
