CAFRE students visit European Parliament

During their time in the European Parliament the group of second year BSc Agricultural Technology students had the opportunity to view a meeting of the Agriculture Committee and meet with the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Phil Hogan.

The students also met with a Brussels-based representative of the UK’s farming unions and other agri-related lobbyists.

Commenting Mr Nicholson said: “It is always a pleasure to welcome visitor groups from Northern Ireland to Brussels. I enjoyed the opportunity to discuss the work of the European Parliament and its committees with the group of CAFRE students as part of their visit to Brussels this week.

“The students showed an excellent understanding of EU policy and issues affecting agriculture in general. As they represent the future of the agri-food industry it was particularly interesting to hear the students’ views on Brexit and the needs of agriculture in terms of support and trade once the UK leaves the European Union.”

Mr Nicholson concluded: “I hope the students found their visit to the European Parliament useful and I wish them well for their future studies and careers.”
