Challenges to agri science post Brexit

The challenges for agricultural science in a post-Brexit era is the topic of an upcoming breakfast seminar organised by the NI Institute of Agricultural Science (NIIAS).

The speaker is Professor Nigel Scollan, the recently appointed Director of the Institute for Global Food Security and Professor of Animal Science at Queen’s University Belfast.

The seminar, sponsored by United Feeds, will be held in the Conference Hall, AFBI, Hillsborough, Co Down, BT26 6DR on Wednesday 16 November 2016, with a light breakfast served at 8:00am and the presentation commencing at 8.20am.

Professor Scollan, originally from Northern Ireland, studied animal science at the University of Edinburgh where he also completed his PhD, before moving to the University of Guelph. In 1993, he took up a research scientist position at the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research at the University of Aberstwyth, which then became the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS).

In 2011/12, he was president of the British Society of Animal Science, and over the years has been involved in many government, industry and academic forums addressing issues in agriculture and food.

This breakfast seminar is open to NIIAS members and non-members. Cost for NIIAS members is £10 per person, for non-members £15 and students £5.
