Jordan Taylor, owner and creator of By The Bay Home Scents based in Bangor, has gone from a hairdresser/beautician to an entrepreneur, starting up another successful business following the pandemic.

The family run business essentially took shape at the start of lockdown in March.

Jordan, a mother of two daughters Olive and Eve and wife explained: “I’ve always lived in Bangor and absolutely love it hence my business name By The Bay.

“A few years ago I started Pop Beauty NI a home salon and had great success winning Salon of the Year 2019 hosted by Northern Ireland Hair & Beauty Awards. This was a very proud moment as I started the business from scratch converting part of my home into a salon.

“But as the pandemic started I would never have believed it would have changed things the way it did. My business and income pretty much ended. Finding it difficult I decided I would explore another love of mine, all things smelling nice.

“After researching online I decided to produce my own wax melts, I wanted to create luxury organic products that were vegan friendly with fully recyclable packaging. After a lot of ‘waxidents’ I had a finished product which delivered everything I envisioned. I transformed my garage into a fully functioning factory and workshop and my following has gone from strength to strength. I know how difficult it is for everyone currently and how much time we are all spending in our own homes. It’s amazing to think of how many people get joy from the fragrances we produce, and to put a smile on someone’s face is a great feeling - I know it ‘just make scents’.”
