FarmFLiX, the world’s first online subscription based agricultural video platform, was recently announced as Streaming App of the Year at a virtual awards ceremony celebrating excellence in apps developed in the UK.

It was one of two awards the Lurgan-headquartered company collected at the virtual ceremony for apps it has designed and developed.

GCD also won the award for News App of the Year for its work with Independent News & Media (INM) for the Independent.ie news app and was shortlisted for UK App Agency of the Year – Medium.

FarmFLiX was created by Maghera man John McClean in 2016.

A former software engineer, John approached GCD to help with the development of a Netflix-style streaming service to deliver original, high quality agricultural videos to the farming community and those connected to the agri-food industry.

Highlighting the responsibility of developing this innovative product Andrew Gough, Managing Director at GCD, said: “The agri-food industry is one of our key vertical markets, so we were thrilled to have been given the responsibility of developing this innovative product and for helping John bring his new content streaming platform business to market for one of Northern Ireland’s most important sectors.

“Thanks to the solution developed by the GCD team, FarmFLiX now has a user-friendly app that is enabling the business to deliver high quality agricultural content that both entertains and educates its loyal subscribers.

“The FarmFLiX app has an extraordinarily engaged audience that is anticipated to grow even further.

“To support future growth, the app integrates the analytics required for the team to better understand its subscriber base and to deliver more personalised experiences.“

Praising the teams hardwork and commitment, FarmFLiX founder, John McClean added: “Our team is heavily focused on content creation, so we needed a partner to help us achieve a technology stack that can deliver a world-class experience for the FarmFLiX audience.

“GCD has created a slick mobile app for us that significantly enhances FarmFLiX. They delivered it within a tight budget and allowed us to use our experience and get hands on in the project development. Having a professional and experienced team like GCD build our foundation architecture will pay us dividends for years in reduced maintenance and they will be our first choice for the next phase of feature development for FarmFLiX.”
