The firm, headquartered in Belfast with 15 offices throughout the UK, Ireland, Europe, and the USA has been certified by Best Companies and recognised for its commitment to employees, with a 2 star accreditation rating, which represents ‘outstanding’ levels of employee engagement.

Kainos’ work is “innovative, globally impactful and life changing” and exists to make people’s lives better through technology. With this ethos in mind, navigating the current circumstances has meant not only reacting to events as they unfold, but also understanding and considering how best to support their colleagues and the evolving needs of their customers into the future.

As a major supplier to the UK public sector, the organisation says it is “immensely proud” that its people continue to be involved in a wide range of pandemic-related client projects. Examples include briefing the Secretary of State about technologies to support the worldwide response to Covid-19, various NHS projects - including enabling people to report if they were self-isolating - video consultations, home testing services and Covid-19 contact tracing.

Kainos has used the pandemic as an opportunity to reconnect with its values and reshape ways of working to be a great employer. The company recognises that this starts with listening to its employees and have therefore established a Modern Workplace Programme to help them consider, shape and deliver future ways of working.

For example, the organisation recently accelerated the redesign of its learning suite to a virtual platform, introducing new ‘Mindset & Coaching Culture e-learning’ and an innovative wellbeing programme in response to employees wanting practical guidance for remote working and self-care guides to support emotional, financial, social, career and physical wellbeing.

Kainos’ CEO, Brendan Mooney, said: “Having our people tell us how we are performing as an employer is the foundation upon which we build our employee engagement strategy. The Best Companies survey is key to ensuring that our colleagues are able to express their views openly and honestly. This approach has enabled us to attain ‘outstanding’ levels of engagement with our people, and along with the ongoing support and trust of our customers, it has allowed us to build an international business. For the past 10 years, Best Companies has assisted that journey as we have transformed from a local organisation of 240 people, to a global business of over 1,900 people.”
