The multimedia site features video messages from business owners telling people details of their offering and reminding them of the importance of supporting local.

Other features include prize competitions and links to the social media pages of other shop local initiatives.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Brian Tierney, encouraged the public to access the easy to navigate site and urged them to make a particular effort to support the City and District’s goods and service providers this Christmas.

“I am delighted that all the information on our outstanding local gift and sustenance providers has been collated into one website to make it easier and more convenient to choose local this Christmas,” he said.

“It has never been more important for us to get behind businesses that are locally owned this year, given the smaller window they will have to open to the public. Finding the perfect gift for loved ones has never been easier or safer with many local retailers now offering click and collect or home delivery services. From popular clothing brands to handcrafted stocking fillers, food and drink, they have it all wrapped up – and this website will help point you in the right direction. We want the public to remember that your small spend makes a giant difference to local businesses”

Local businesses have donated a feast of prizes for the site’s daily competition where you can win some of the finest locally produced gifts and food in the region. The site will function beyond Christmas time and will be available for the public to access in the New Year, so they can continue to support local. This project has been part funded by Department for Communities as part of the wider Derry City and Strabane District Council Recovery campaign.
