New ‘Reconnect With Confidence’ window stickers are being distributed to retailers throughout the local area and other customer-facing premises as they open their doors again and welcome both new and old customers back.

The aim of the scheme is to help businesses provide reassurance to potential customers about the measures they have taken to ensure a safe return after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Reassurance is one of the key elements in helping to attract shoppers and visitors back into town centres and the scheme hopes that the window stickers will encourage shoppers to return and therefore support and boost the local economy.

Chair of the Mid Ulster District Council, councillor Cathal Mallaghan, explained: “After such a long period when so many of our normal and seemingly simple day-to-day activities were suspended or curtailed, like nipping into a shop or stopping for a coffee, there’s a natural concern about just picking up where we left off.

“Businesses, particularly in our retail and hospitality sectors, have been working extremely hard to put measures in place to re-open safely for their customers and staff – from new ways of working and social distancing measures to enhanced cleaning.

“These new window stickers are a very visible way to provide reassurance to visitors that their safety has been prioritised and that they can reconnect with their local shops with confidence”.

Stephen Mohan, who has shops in both Cookstown and Dungannon, welcomed the scheme and urged the community to come out and support local businesses.

He said: “It’s great to see our towns re-open with a lot of work carried out to facilitate a safe shopping experience.

“At this time your town needs you more than ever.”

Businesses wishing to join or find out more about the ‘Reconnect with Confidence’ stickers, should contact the Council’s Economic Development service on 03000 132 132 or email [email protected].
