TriMedika donates non-contact thermometers to special school

The business, which operates from its Springfield Road base, has ramped up its activity since the outbreak of virus, servicing new global markets and new sectors within those markets but now TriMedika, headed by Chief Executive Officer Dr Roisin Molloy and with co-founders Julie Brien and Paul Molloy, has turned its attention to the Belfast community to support the needs of children and staff at Harberton Special School.

The school is the first community entity to receive the professional devices from the company allowing parents of children and staff, to work and educate with reassurance.

The school will be using the reliable thermometers to test staff and children’s temperatures safely and efficiently as the drive to find a vaccine continues.

Angela Wilson Head of Marketing at TriMedika has a child at the school. She explains why the business took the decision to begin its CSR campaign at Harberton Special School.

She said: “My son Finn, who has Down Syndrome, was rushed to hospital with suspected Covid-19 in April. After two days agonising wait we were told he didn’t have Covid but that he had bilateral pneumonia and he spent the next two and a half weeks in hospital. In hospital, they used ear thermometers which was very uncomfortable for Finn and I was worried about the risk of infection with Covid!

“Finn, like many of the pupils at Harberton Special School, is vulnerable and during his time in hospital, Mr Curran, the Head Master at Harberton and Finn’s teacher Miss Rafferty offered a lot of support. Finn really enjoyed speaking to them and it really picked him up. It was really great to see his wee face light up when he got a phone call or a new video message and it spoke volumes about the importance of an educational setting to our children.

“School is not just a place to learn for Finn and other children but it is a social outlet that is essential to their growth and emotional development that’s why we chose Harberton Special School as our first community connection because it reassures parents and staff that the resumption of the school day is done as safely as possible.”
