Head of FSB NI, Roger Pollen said: “The Climate Crisis has been rightly recognised as the most fundamental challenge of this decade. Successfully combating climate change will require a collaborative effort of large and small businesses, all levels of government, and the wider public. This event is an important step in the right direction, providing SMEs with knowledge about some of the practical steps they can take towards Net Zero, including sharing of best practice from those who have already taken great strides towards being carbon neutral.

“While climate change is a substantial threat, there are great opportunities for innovation and positive change in our response to it. The most successful businesses are those that can successfully respond to constant change. Those that harness green technology will not only be environmentally sustainable but can also generate prosperity though clean growth.

“As positive action on climate is taken, it’s vital that policy is done ‘with’ small businesses and not ‘to’ them, as the government seeks to live up to ambitious targets on reducing emissions. Therefore, the timing of this collaboration could not be more pertinent as we seek to address the climate emergency together. We would encourage SMEs of all sizes and sectors to register for this free event.”

UK Government Net Zero Business Champion, Andrew Griffith MP added: “The actions of every single business will be central to this country’s successful transition to a low carbon economy, which will drive jobs and growth within the UK and open-up large and attractive new sectors of the world economy in which businesses based in the UK can take significant market shares.  Businesses in Northern Ireland are at the forefront of this opportunity.”
