Earthed wins best fabrics award in New York

A 300-year-old family business near Maghera has proved it can stay up to date with modern fashion after winning a design competition in New York.

Clarks of Upperlands was founded just one year before the News Letter in 1736 and has been producing high quality Linen ever since.

Now its luxury brand Earthed has won Best Fabric award at this year’s Boutique Design New York (BDNY), a design trade fair, bringing together interior designers, architects, developers and manufacturers within the hospitality industry.

The award is part of the Best of BDNY Product Design Awards, which celebrates designers and manufacturers of products that demonstrate functional and aesthetic progress and innovation in the hospitality sector.

Earthed, was awarded the title for its Faded Grandeur design in the Latobius colourway from debut collection, The Upperlands.

“To have been recognised for our innovative designs at such a well-respected design event is an incredible achievement for Earthed,” said creative director Duncan Neil.

“We strive to bring something completely unique to the interiors market and to be rewarded for this is testament to our hard work and dedication.

As the firm’s first venture into the US he said it had received positive feedback and made connections with designers and decision makers from leading global companies.

“We will continue to create unique and sumptuous fabrics that are ideal for the home, as well as interior spaces across the hospitality sector.’’

The award win follows a busy 12 months for the Irish brand as it continues its international growth drive. It is poised for further growth across a number of markets.

The Upperlands was the first collection launched by Earthed, combining traditional techniques with modern creativity and digital technology.
