Fantastic trade for cattle at Rathfriland Co-Op

A fantastic trade for cattle last Friday (March 10) with young stock a really strong trade.

98 WEANLINGS: In the weanling section, 98 head was sold with good 300k Ch males easily selling to £800 per head several times. A top price per head was paid for a 234k Lim at £660, 250k at £700, 260k at £700 and 300k at £785. Castlewellan farmer: 266k at £740, 234k at £650. Ballynahinch farmer: 270k at £660, 260k at £605, 278k at £610, 286k at £640. Ballyveamore farmer: 364k at £830 and 374k at £860. Moira farmer: 308k at £820, 330k at £800, 318k at £800, 286k at £740.

DROPPED CALVES: In the dropped calf section, a pen of young sturks from Legananny sold to £855 for an outstanding heifer calf followed by males at 760, £715, £600, £545 etc. Hereford bulls sold to £380, £365, £355 and £350. Angus bulls to £360 twice and Angus heifers to £350 followed by £340. Strong Friesian bull calves sold to £170.

HEIFERS: Rostrevor farmer: 434k at £900, BB 424k at £840, 426k at £880, 416k at £820, 398k at £780, 380k at £795. Warrenpoint farmer: 434k at £795.

BULLOCKS: In the bullock section, a Newcastle farmer reached £1,085 for a 560k Friesian. A 500k bull from the same farm sold at £1,015. Rostrevor farmer: 516k at £1,015. Kilkeel farmer: 540k at £1,045, 516k at £1,030. Dromara farmer: 500k at £1,000. Bryansford farmer: 616k at £1,235.

A reduced entry of sheep on Tuesday evening saw 117 fat ewes sell to £107 with hoggets improved in price considerably, eg Dromara farmer: 28k at £93.50. Ballyward farmer: 24.5k at £92.50. Corbet farmer: 31.5k at £91. Leitrim farmer: 26.5k at £90. Katesbridge farmer: 24.5k at £90. Newry farmer: 30k at £90. Mayobridge farmer: 26k at £90. Newry farmer: 25k at £90.

FAT EWES: Rathfriland farmer: £107. Ballynamagna farmer: £105. Newry farmer: £95. Ballyward farmer: £95. Ballymartin farmer: £93. Ballyward farmer: £89.
