Fat cows to £1,060 at Rathfriland Co-Op

Some very high prices were had at Rathfriland Co-Op last Friday for quality weanlings.

A pen of 10 male and female Lims from Ballynahinch sold to 288p/k or 234k at £675.

Others sold at 282k at £590 or 266p/k, 278k at £725 or 261p/k, 192k at £500 or 260p/k, 270k at £690 or 256p/k and 284k at £710 or 250p/k.

A top price of £900 was paid for 402k Blue from Ballyward. Castlewellan farmer: 370k at £805.

Dropped calves cleared up to £300 for a BB heifer from Castlewellan.

A Sh bull from Ballyward sold at £295. Angus bulls to £290 and Lim bulls to £285 from a Rathfriland farmer.

Angus heifer calves sold consistently from £190 to £270. Strong Friesian calves sold to £190 each for five from Dromore.

HEIFERS: Store heifers sold to 205p/k for a Lim from Silverbridge with 414k at £780, 420k at £775 and 362k at £680, 362k at £680 and 376k at £680. Tullyniskey farmer: 472k at £900. Ballyward farmer: 448k at £895.

BULLOCKS: Rathfriland farmer: 614k at £1150, 570k at £1075, 568k at £1,080, 526k at £1,040. Forkhill farmer: 582k at £1,150, 592k at £1,125, 554k at £1,100. Newcastle farmer: 442k at £900, 508k at £990.

FRIESIAN BULLOCKS: 510k at £890, 506k at £790, 442k at £670, 580k at £780, 316k at £570.

Fat cows to £1060 for 716k, £975 for 668k and £800 for 512k and 460k at £625.

A bigger entry of sheep sold in an easier trade for heavier hoggets on Tuesday evening.

A top of £87 was paid to a Kilkeel farmer for 27k. Ardglass farmer: 26k at £86. Katesbridge farmer: 26k at 86. Closkelt farmer: 28.5k at £85. Kilcoo farmer: 24.5k at £85. Dromara farmer: 27.5k at £85. Killyleagh farmer: 28k at £85.

FAT EWES: Ballyward farmer: Two lots at £85. Rostrevor farmer: £84. Ballyroney farmer: £81. Donaghmore farmer: £80. Corbet farmer: £80.

BREEDERS: Full mouthed ewes with 2 lambs at foot to £168, £165 etc. Ewes with single lambs to £150. Springers to £122.
