Head of NI Civil Service signs off after ‘42 years and 199 days’

The Head of the Civil Service David Sterling has now retired from his post.

In a Tweet he said: “Today I leave the NICS after 42 years, 199 days.

“I’m proud to have worked with wonderful people and dedicated public servants who work hard every day to make a difference. It has been an honour and a privilege to lead the organisation.

“Thank you for your support & good wishes.”

His post has breen responded to countless times.

Among those to respond was Alliance leader Naomi Long who said: “Thank you for all your hard work and best wishes for the future.

“It’s not an easy role, and these have been turbulent and challenging times, but your calm and steady influence has been much appreciated.”
