Herefordson offer

A good offering of Hereford bulls is scheduled for the Elite Breeders Spring sale to be held on Monday, April 3, at the Dungannon Farmers Mart.

The sale is timed to meet the demand for sweeper bulls to go to grass with the province’s beef and dairy herds.

“The natural fertility of the Hereford is a big advantage at this time of year,” according to James Graham of the Elite Hereford Breeders. “The aim is to get cows in calf quickly and maintain a tight calving interval.”

An added bonus is the current value of Hereford sired calves in the livestock market. This is running at an all time high - producing a very welcome extra income to hard pressed dairy farmers.

A number of breeding females have also been catalogued and will be of interest to both new and established breeders looking to expand their herds.

A pre sale veterinary inspection and weight for age check will ensure the quality and soundness of the entries and stock will be paraded prior to the sale so that potential purchasers can view the stock on offer.

Catalogues are available from David Smyth on 078080 78117 or can be viewed on www.herefordcattle.org under online sale catalogues.
