'Immensely encouraging': Newry whiskey maker Two Stacks takes ‘Dram in a Can’ nationwide across Tesco GB

Newry-based producer Two Stacks expands its UK retail presence following new Tesco listings and a deal to supply Avolta's World Duty Free airport stores

Pioneering Dram in a Can Irish whiskey from Newry-based Two Stacks is rolling out nationwide across Tesco stores in Great Britain, bringing the small Co Down company's innovative whiskey format to a much wider audience.

Alongside this, the company's original Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey has launched in Tesco Northern Ireland, bringing another distinctive expression from the Two Stacks range to retail shelves.

Shane McCarthy, managing director of Two Stacks, a leading whiskey bonder, bottler and canner of spirits including whiskey and Irish cream liqueur, said: “These immensely encouraging launches represent two sides of what we're building at Two Stacks, challenging convention through innovative packaging formats while continuing to showcase the quality, character and heritage of traditional Irish whiskey.

“We are indebted to Tesco's Michael Crealey for his support with the Tesco NI listing and for helping open the door to Tesco GB, an immensely important development for our business. It's great to see the brand continuing to grow on shelf, especially in markets outside Northern Ireland.”

Two Stacks has won widespread acclaim for developing Dram in a Can, an innovative format designed to make Irish whiskey more convenient to enjoy, including single malt and blended varieties.

Described as the world's first canned whiskey, the product has since secured significant business in international markets, including the highly competitive US, the biggest global market for Irish whiskey.

Two Stacks was founded in 2020 by Shane, along with longstanding business friends Liam Brogan and Donal McLynn. The company has also secured business at airports across the UK through a partnership with Avolta's World Duty Free stores.

The partnership marks another step in the Co Down whiskey maker's expansion into travel retail, offering travellers a range of distinctive cask-strength whiskeys and carefully crafted peated malts.

The multi-award-winning company blends and bottles a range of whiskeys sourced from Irish distilleries, including Killowen, near Rostrevor in the Mournes. Owned by master distiller Brendan Carty, Killowen is described as Ireland's smallest distillery and is recognised for its innovative approach to whiskey production.
