IRISH TV airs exclusive interview with Anna May McHugh

The winner of numerous accolades including an Irish Person of the Year Award, Anna May invites Irish TV into her home for an exclusive chat with Michael Commins, presenter of The Half Door.

For over 60 years, Anna May has been one of the driving forces behind one of the world’s most respected agricultural events, The National Ploughing Championships; beginning as a secretary to its funder in 1952 and being elected managing director in 1973. Not confining herself to just one role, she is also a board member of the World Ploughing Organisation, chairperson of the Diocesan Finance Committee, and a director of KFM.

Ballylinan woman Anna May tells Irish TV about her early life growing up in Co Laois, her camogie days and commencing work with The National Ploughing Championships.

Anna May was born and reared on a farm and, in 1966, she married John McHugh and has lived all her life on a working farm. Anna May has spent all her life within a few miles radius of Laois, close to Athy.

Anna May tells Irish TV about her first Ploughing Championships, the association today, her family and her hobbies.

A onetime camogie player with caps from her county, Anna May’s real hobby is her work.

The The Half Door episode with Anna May airs this Sunday (January 31st) at 8.30pm on Irish TV SKY 191.

The Half Door features some well-known people from various walks of life and is a 30 minute show set in the home of the guests.
