The Labour Relations Agency has published updated guidance to help employers navigate the festive period with confidence and professionalism. The free online resource is designed to support effective planning around staffing, workplace events, and employee expectations.

Among the areas covered are managing annual leave requests, conduct at work-related events, and promoting safe, inclusive celebrations. Guidance is also provided on mental health, responsible alcohol use, social media, and the application of workplace policies during the Christmas season.

Elaine Clarke, Director of Employment Relations Services, said: "Christmas offers a chance to recognise staff contributions and build team spirit, but employers also need to be mindful of inclusivity, wellbeing, and conduct.

"With considered planning and clear communication, organisations can ensure festive activities reflect their values and support a respectful, professional culture. This guidance brings together key principles and practical steps to help employers strike that balance and avoid issues that can escalate into complaints or disputes."

The Labour Relations Agency continues to provide free, impartial and confidential employment relations services to employers, employees, trade unions and professional advisers across Northern Ireland.
