Leadership skills are key

Enterprise Minister Jonathan Bell has highlighted the importance of effective leadership in building a successful business during a visit to TG Eakin in Comber.

Mr Bell was a taken on a tour of the business, founded by Tom Eakin, by the current MD Jeremy Eakin and talked through the firm’s expansion plans which include recruiting another 25 staff this year.

“Passionate and energetic leadership in a business creates a positive presence that has a direct impact on the workforce,” said Mr Bell.

“TG Eakin is a prime example of an innovative, indigenous business focusing on skills development as the means to achieving further success.”

The medical device manufacturer recently benefited from Invest Northern Ireland support to undertake world class leadership training through the Leadership 4 Growth programme.

The Minister added: “Invest NI is committed to raising awareness of the key role that leaders play and of the need to develop our local business leaders to achieve economic growth. It has a range of support available to help people develop their leadership and management capability and I would encourage business people to take time to consider the future direction of their business, reflect on their strengths as leaders and address any areas where improvements could be made and access the support available to develop these skills .”

Jeremy Eakin said: “Investing in the skills of our management team was an invaluable process to help the business grow into the future.

“We have recently invested in a new subsidiary company in Tokyo and have recruited 25 new staff over the last 12 months.”
