Listooder match attracts a top entry

A full entry of competitors is in place for Listooder & District Ploughing Society's 126th ploughing match, supported by JL Engineering, which will take place this Saturday (January 30) at Clay Road, Killyleagh.

More than 30 competitors will travel from across the country to the site, on the shores of Strangford Lough to participate in the oldest farming tradition, at the oldest ploughing match in Ireland with the aim of completing the perfect plot.

Competitors, men and women, and of all ages will compete in six classes including world style conventional, vintage classes as well as the age-old art of horse ploughing.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s contest Listooder acting chairman Martin Gill said: “We are very much looking forward to holding our annual match back in Killyleagh.

“We are indebted to Alan Hogg for providing the land to hold our match and our committee have been working hard so that, despite the recent inclement weather, our match will go ahead this weekend.

“We trust the weather will be in our favour and expect a strong turnout of competitors, officials and visitors.

“We are grateful for the support we have received from all our sponsors including principal sponsor, JL Engineering.”

The ploughing match will be sign-posted from the Comber Road, just a mile from Killyleagh.

Entry for spectators is free. Local arrangements for traffic and parking are in place with competitions commencing at 10.30am.
