MJM moves ashore with plan to rejuvenate Belfast city centre building

A planning application to rejuvenate the building on the corner of Donegall Square East and May Street in Belfast has been lodged by the McConville family, headed up by entrepreneur Brian McConville.

The new scheme proposes to refurbish and extend the Grade B1 listed building that wouls see the townhouses restored to their former glory, and including a new extension to the rear with six floors of Grade A office space and restaurant/café/bar/lounge provision.

The project designed by Hamilton’s Architects represents a multi-million pound investment in the heart of the city centre.

“We are delighted to potentially bring some really good news for the city centre,” said Mr McConville.

“These buildings deserve to be brought back to their former glory and to breathe new life into that corner of Donegall Square. Our plans include ambitions to attract a first-class restaurant offering.

“We are already speaking to celebrity chefs about what Belfast has to offer. This is as well as a café/bar/lounge experience which maximises the strategic location in the city centre.”

The proposal is currently being considered by Belfast City Council and a decision is expected in the region of 15 weeks.
