“We want to encourage young breeders and handlers with top dairy quality heifer calves to come along and get involved with this year’s event,” confirmed Armagh County Agricultural Show chairman Stephen Hamilton.

“It’s all about getting new blood involved in the showing of dairy cattle. This has been an aspiration long shared with the management team at Mason’s and working together with company managing director Colin Purdy, we have come up with an innovative format, which we have christened Mason’s Dairy Star of the Future Class.

“We believe it to be quite unique in terms of its format and the objectives which it sets out to achieve.”

Mason’s Animal Feeds is providing a £750 prize fund for the new class.

“We are delighted to be involved,” said Colin Purdy. “As a business we are very aware of just how important milk production is to the economy of Armagh and further afield throughout Northern Ireland.

“We also know that there are lots of young handlers and breeders out there who need that little bit of encouragement to show their stock.

“Obviously, the new class will also give longer established breeders an opportunity to show case their elite cows of tomorrow. So, there is something in this for everyone. I can also guarantee that no one taking part will go away empty handed on the day. This year’s show will, again take place in Gosford Forest Park. It is the perfect setting for a show of this kind. I would, therefore encourage as many competitors to join us on the day and actively participate in the new Dairy Star of the Future class.”

The close of entries for this year is Wednesday June 1st. Entries can be made at www.armaghshow.com
