NI firm to create 25 new jobs after multi-million pound contracts awarded

After being awarded a number of multi-million pound contracts, a Portadown plumbing and engineering firm is creating 25 new jobs.

Irwin M&E, based at Carn Industrial Estate in the town, have been awarded contracts with both the Southern Health and Social Care Trust as well as the Education Authority.

They have also been awarded contracts as the new M&E (Mechanical and Electrical) firm for a number of projects in London.

Managing Director Keith Stewart revealed that their plumbing and electrical business is going from strength to strength.

“We have good healthy order books, in fact, full order books for the next three years,” he said.

“That is why we need more staff,” said the managing director.

“We have offices in Portadown Derry and Belfast and we are doing work in London,” said Mr Stewart.

He added: “Throughout the various lockdowns we have provided the local hospitals in Northern Ireland and central government with Mechanical and Electrical services and support.

“From converting canteens in Craigavon Area Hospital into wards, to New Covid areas within the Ulster Hospital, 
we install and maintain the M&E building services and have been helping NHS Estates care for the people in 
NI.

“We employ almost 200 and, as a thank you and to celebrate the coming out of lockdown, we have given all our employees a half day this Friday. 30th April,” said Mr Stewart.

“We are asking them to spend time with their families and loved ones and go out and support the local businesses that are able to open up this weekend by spending money,” said Mr Stewart.

He added: “We hope to employ 25 new employees in the next six months .

“We are also running an Apprentice Campaign for young people to start Sept 21,” said the managing director.

The firm have advertised a range of jobs due to the recent long-term maintenance contract awards within the health and education sectors.

They are recruiting electricians, help desk operatives, junior mechanical Quantity Surveyor, Mechanical Contracts Supervisor, Mechanical Stores Assistant and office administrator.
