In June 2018, it was announced the Belfast-headquartered Novosco, which was recently acquired by Munich-based CANCOM Group, had secured the £107m contract to manage IT infrastructure and support services for Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest and most digital healthcare trusts in the UK. It runs Addenbrooke’s and The Rosie hospitals.

Novosco has now completed the first phase of the contract, taking over the management and support of CUH’s IT systems and making the company the trust’s primary IT infrastructure service and support supplier.

It safely and successfully delivered operational service commencement by November 19, both on time and on budget.

As the Trust’s new IT infrastructure service and support supplier, Novosco is now providing a range of services to support CUH’s award-winning eHospital digital maturity programme and its electronic patient record system, Epic.

CUH is one of the 16 Global Digital Exemplar (GDE) trusts selected by NHS England for its digital excellence and maturity.

A Global Digital Exemplar is an NHS provider recognised for delivering improvements in the quality of care through the world-class use of digital technologies and information. Exemplars share lessons and experiences through the creation of blueprints to enable other trusts to follow in their footsteps as quickly and effectively as possible.

Novosco counts among its existing portfolio a number of health sector clients, including other UK NHS trusts such as Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust and Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, both considered “Fast Followers” for their work in partnership with recognised GDEs.

Novosco Managing Director John Lennon said: “We’re extremely pleased to have delivered operational service commencement on schedule and within budget, taking us into the second stage of the contract and the delivery of vital IT managed services.

“We look forward to working closely with the CUH team to support them by providing world-class IT services that will help the trust continue to deliver sustainable, efficient and effective care for its patients at Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie maternity hospital.”

CUH Director of Digital and Chief Clinical Information Officer Dr Afzal Chaudhry added: “As one of the most digitally mature NHS trusts in the country, we continuously strive to embrace advancements in technology to support the provision of high quality patient care. Our partnership with Novosco will enable us to further develop and extend the capabilities of our digital services over the years to come, bringing further benefits to our patients and to our hospital staff and healthcare partners.”

In November, Novosco also announced that it had launched its dedicated security operations centre (SOC) in Belfast and created 12 new jobs to operate it following a half million-pound investment. The new centre, based at the company’s headquarters in Catalyst Inc, will enable the firm to provide specialist IT security services to organisations across the UK and Ireland.
